EDEN: A SPECULATION

Eden: A Speculation

Beginning with the story of the Garden of Eden, this project imagines the building of a utopian community created by Adam and Eve. Presented in book form, the narrative unfolds over an 80-year time span and includes 9 constructions: a bedroom, lover’s lane, meditation space, an enclosure for the tree of knowledge, an eating area, an amphitheater, workshops, gallery, and archive. The constructions are designed to be built by hand using pre-industrial materials and technology. The book catalogs these constructions through a series of digital scans creating an ethereal quality, implying its non-existence. In the larger context, this project was an opportunity to think about how community forms and develops over time, and how the built environment can foster and sustain that community.
